Proleafy is a smart indoor growing device developed by Palram4U, designed to make growing vegetables at home easy, efficient, and accessible for everyone. The product includes 15 planting beds, each with 4 sockets, supporting up to 60 plants grown simultaneously.
To ensure optimal plant health, Proleafy features an integrated system for monitoring pH and EC levels, temperature and humidity sensors, pumps, fans, lighting, and automated fertilizer dosing. All of this is controlled by an intelligent central system.

Our team partnered with Palram to design a seamless user experience that reflects the product’s innovative vision, transforming home cultivation into a tech-enabled, user-friendly process.

The Problem

While the hardware was sophisticated, users needed an intuitive and clear interface to control the system. Early internal tests revealed the complexity of managing such a multi-layered device could become a barrier to adoption, especially for users unfamiliar with hydroponic or smart gardening systems.

Challenge

We faced two key design challenges:
1. Creating a mobile application that simplifies complex system control, from onboarding to live monitoring.
2. Later in the process, migrating the experience to an embedded touchscreen interface after technical limitations affected mobile-device connectivity.
Both required user-centered design thinking and strategic planning to maintain usability while offering advanced control features.

Solution

Working alongside the Palram team, I led the end-to-end product design process, starting with UX research, persona building, and user journey mapping.

We designed a dedicated mobile app:

• A frictionless onboarding experience.

• Real-time system status and feedback indicators.

• Remote control of environmental parameters.

• Smart alerts for maintenance or nutrient levels.
  
  

After launching a one-year pilot with 30 testers: User feedback was overwhelmingly positive regarding usability and ease of control.

Process

Strategic Pivot

Connectivity issues led to a strategic pivot. We transitioned the product experience from mobile to an integrated touchscreen interface built directly into the device.

At this stage, I re-engaged to lead:

• Field research with testers.

• Competitive analysis of embedded UI systems.

• Complete UX redesign tailored to physical interaction.

• Wireframes, prototypes, and final UI visuals.
  
  This second iteration emphasized tactile simplicity, clear visual hierarchy, and guided control flows that minimized learning curves.

Results & Impact

Following the product’s public launch, thousands of users are now actively growing with Proleafy.

Feedback consistently highlights:

• Interface friendliness and clarity.

• Ease of use even for beginners.

• A sense of trust and control over the growing process.

The redesigned management system played a central role in the product’s success. The collaborative process, led by strategic design and deep attention to user needs, delivered a solution that’s not just functional, but joyful.
